swipe right to hire

it's official: i'm exhausted from the job-search

job hunting is a lot of work and feels like online dating but worse because of so many unknown variables

dating is supposed to be fun and stuff but WOW job searching is not!!!

  • apply to jobs you want to work at = swiping right on people because you found them attractive or interesting
  • the ATS filters you out before you get viewed by a human pair of eyes = your profile doesn't get a lot of matches
  • only shortlisted candidates are notified, if you're not the select few you won't hear back from us = you get ghosted
  • asked to do a pre-interview assignment = more screening before they decide if they want to talk to you
  • invited for an interview = like a first date but with your date and their parent and questions directed at you dominate the conversation
  • "where do you see yourself in 5 years" = asking about long-term plans when they only want something casual
  • people with jobs tell you that you'll find something soon = people in relationships saying that there's many fishes in the sea and you'll find the one
with dating and dating apps, you know the purpose of why people are there and what they're looking for
with job hunting and available jobs on job boards, you know that companies have a vacancy and are looking to hire people - but you don't know if they have a candidate in mind already

people go on dates so that they know what they know more about themselves and what they want in a partner, but how do i know whether the job is a right fit for me if i can't even get hired?

i'm tired
i don't want to settle but should i be lowering my standards?
i've been telling myself that rejection is redirection and that if it's not meant for me it's not

in the words of shonda rhimes "i am smart and talented and i work really fucking hard"
